  The Foretop Man
"Who in the rainbow can draw the line where the violet tint ends and the orange tint begins? Distinctly we see the difference of the colors, but where exactly does the one first blendingly enter into the other? So with sanity and insanity." ~Herman Melville

  Nature's Miracle: Legalize Abortion
I felt great need to write this in response to a republican friend.

"Abortion should be legal because the government has no place in restricting the rights of a women over her own body. But I feel that in general, abortions are wrong. There are circumstances in which they can be justified--I don't like it but I think women reserve the right to choose. The only reason women would even abort their fetus would be because they do not want the child and the responsibility/reputation having it would bring. Here's the deal: an unmarried pregnant woman is looked down upon by society. She may be turned down for jobs, may be shunned by her parents and friends and often her church (if she belongs to one; I don't), The problems of becoming a being unmarried and pregnant for whatever reason is often too great for some women to handle, especially if they are not strong willed and are weak in nature. In some cases, these women may not have had proper sex education and may not know the exact ways they can become pregnant. They might not have access to contraceptives or not be educated in the use of them. This argument leads to the advocating for reform of sex education in schools (secondary probably).

All of this boils down to the question of the government's affiliated suppress the rights of an entire faction (women) over their biology--more than half the population.

Ah, and about late term abortion...That's illegal. It's only legal, under the circumstances, to save the woman's life. And here's my friend's argument--what's wrong with killing a tumor sized lump of tissue? Note that he is talking about very very early in the gestation period abortion. I know that he would never approve the killing of babies when it appeals to his morality--no matter what he might say.

But abortion is essentially murder because it does kill what (if not from the beginning) becomes life--something 'sacred' because we cannot create it. Nature's miracle."

  Message to the Democrats
Now is the time when we need a leader who is strong, who will not be overshadowed and will lead America into the New Age. We cannot afford to endorse those who cannot hold their own again the Republican machine. However, we need to keep in touch with the changing democratic system. After these next four years of Republican domination in the White House, America will not be ready for any change in presidental standards. The presidential candidates running in '08 will be rich white males. The country is not yet ready for a black or female president, not to mention hispanic, asian, or atheist president.
Us who feel that there MUST be a change in the types of democratic candidates for the presidency in the near future must advocate for it and wait readily for 2012.

Here's what I say: Vote Herschel for 2028
It's about time to put a hispanic woman in the White House.

  The Reds
Politicians are like diapers. They should both be changed frequently and for the same reason.

During 4th period today my history teacher told my depressed and angry democratic AP class that our county is far more informed than most other states because of the number of good colleges in the vicinity. Well I didn't talk to a single person in the past two weeks who was not experiencing an increase in quirky nervous habits due to the upcoming presidential election. My nails are entirely gone and not coming back although I have been quite satisfied that canker sores have taken a holiday. Of course, canker sores and nailbiting cancel each other out but that's not the point. 17% of registered voters aged 18-25 actually voted in the Nov. 2nd election--a number that I cannot help gawking at. It is beyond my capacity to understand how anyone could be so irresponsible as to not take advantage of their right/ability to influence the choice of leaders of this country for the next four years. I can think of at least 500 people who would give large amounts of money to have been able to cast a ballot the other day. This frustration of my own peer group coupled with my anger/sadness that Bush has been re-elected for four (4!) more years of the presidency cannot be expressed without a long rant. Looking at what I've written so far, I can only hope that I am at least halfway done.

Being surrounded by staunch democrats in these two days after the election, I have heard and infinite amount of threats and announcements to move to other countries (namely Canada and New Zealand) to get away from the Bushites, the utter dissolving of America into anarchy and violence, a non-physical civil war, a complete revolution, etc. These people are cowards.
